This wine is a blend of different clones from the 2010 vintage. A selection of barrels
from mainly 777 and 115 from our Pinot Noir vineyards on decomposed granite soils is
responsible for the blend. As the ripening of the clones is very different, the wine was
blended after malolactic fermentation in the barrels. Maturation was completed after 13
months in heavy toasted French oak before bottling.

Vriesenhof Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

Another 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon from a favourite Stellenbosch Cabernet vintage. This wine, unlike my previous wine on Auction is a blend of four 225 litre barrels, with a perfect marriage between cooper and vineyard for 30 months. Tasting Notes: The wine shows a perfect balance of grassy and charring wood aromas and flavours from top to bottom. A spicy red fruit character on the palate is confirming its promise - it will last for many years to come - if stored properly! This wine is packed in wooden boxes.

Vriesenhof Pinot Noir Bin 115 2008

Harvested during the last days of January 2008. Vinification took place in open fermenters, together with a small portion of pump-overs. The wine went into heavier roasted barrels for completion of alcoholic as well as malolactic fermentation. Tasting Notes: A wine showing a deeper colour with earthiness and forest floor aromas. The heavier roasting highlights the structure of the wine. It needs time to evolve.

Vriesenhof Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

Pre-ferment cold maceration for 24 hours before inoculation in stainless steel tanks. Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation was completed in tank. Wine was racked to first and second fill French oak barrels (225 litres) for maturation. After 12 months, the wine was racked and returned to third fill barrels for another 12 months of aging before the wine was racked to a 500 litre barrel for another 20 months. The period of maturation in the 500 litre barrel was intended for integration of aromas and softening of tannins. Tasting Notes: Beautiful aromas of red fruit, leather and spice on the nose with fresh cherries and raspberry on the palate.

Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation was completed in second fill Burgundian barrels for 15 months prior to bottling. Tasting Notes From the very good 2005 vintage where fruitiness is the main feature of the year! This wine shows a lot of wild berries, spices and gamey earthiness on the aroma (the prominent characteristic of clone 115).
