A blend of three Bordeaux varietals expressing elegance and a fine structure typical of the cool 2007 vintage; black berries, some mint, liquorice and subtle oak - a wine that should continue to develop and improve for at least 10 years from vintage.

94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot Although labelled as Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine includes a splash of Petit Verdot (6%). Selected from a prime Stellenbosch vineyard, fermented in open tanks, basket pressed and matured in 225 litre French oak barrels for 20 months. Tasting note: Dark ruby with a slight garnet edge. Violets and red berry aromas and flavours with subtle cedar and mocha to complement the fruit. Firm, ripe tannins and robust structure that should enable this wine to develop and improve for at least 10 years from vintage. Drink from 2012 to 2018.

Although labelled as Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine includes a splash of Petit Verdot (6%). Selected from a prime Stellenbosch vineyard, fermented in open tanks, basket pressed and matured in 225 litre French oak barrels for 20 months. Tasting Notes: Dark ruby with a slight garnet edge. Violets and red berry aromas and flavours with subtle cedar and mocha to complement the fruit. Firm, ripe tannins and a robust structure that should enable this wine to develop and improve for at least 8 years from vintage.

Hidden Valley Pinotage 2000

94% Pinotage selected from 33 year old vines at Dave Hidden's vineyard in Devon Valley, Stellenbosch. Blended with 6% Cabernet Sauvignon; matured in new 225 litre Nevers and Allier oak barrels for 15 months. 120 cases of this wine were sold at the 2001 CWG Auction. Tasting note: Medium-dark ruby colour with garnet edge; aromas and flavours of cherries, red berries and spice with subtle vanilla and cedar; smooth, velvety tannins with a lingering finish. The description in the 2001 auction catalogue suggested that this wine should be bottle matured until at least 2003, and that it should continue to improve for about five years thereafter i.e. 2008. Now more or less at its peak, and should stay there for another 4 or 5 years.

Granghusrt CIWG Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve1995

Helderberg and Firgrove (Stellenbosch) vineyards. Matured in 1st fill 225 litre oak barrels - mainly French - for 26 months. Rated 5-stars by Wine Magazine. 118 cases sold at the 1997 Auction and 10 at the 2002 Auction. Tasting Notes Medium-dark ruby colour with garnet edge; complex black berries, violets, vanilla and cedar aromas & flavours; well-rounded wine with fine balance of fruit and oak; smooth tannins with a lively acidity giving the wine a youthful impression for a 1995; long, slightly spicy finish.

Grangehurst Cape Reserve Blend 2003

A Cape Blend produced from Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz grapes that were sourced from prime Helderberg vineyards. Fermented in open kuipe with regular punch downs for colour, tannin and flavour extraction. The individual wines were matured separately for 20 months in 4 French oak barrels and 1 American oak barrel; these components were then blended and matured for another 6 months in new French (Allier) oak barrels - a total of 26 months in oak (87% French, 13% American). Tasting note: Dark ruby colour with a slight garnet edge; sweetish red berry, plum and mocha aromas and flavours; ripe, mellow tannins and a lively acidity contribute to the structure of this wine, which has a silky mouthfeel and a lingering finish. Recommended drinking 2006 - 2010.

Grangehurst Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2000

A Selection of 5 barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon from two prime Helderberg vineyards. Fermented in open kuipe and barrel matured separately for 21 months; then blended and transferred back to the same barrels for another two months. Total of 23 months in barrels - 80% French (Nevers & Troncais), 20% American oak. 120 cases of this wine were sold at the 2002 Auction. Tasting note: Dark ruby colour with slight garnet edge. Violets, red berry and cedar aromas. This full-bodied wine has a creamy palate with berry, mocha and oak flavours; the tannins have mellowed after 4 years bottle maturation since the 2002 Auction, but the structure and fruit/wood balance should enable this wine to maintain or further enhance its quality for at least another 5 or 6 years.

Cabernet Sauvignon (100%) selected form Helderberg and Firgrove vineyards (Stellenbosch). Matured in 225 litre French oak barrels for 23 months. 140 cases of this wine were sold at the 2000 Auction. Tasting Note: Medium-dark ruby / garnet colour; complex blackberry; cassis, mocha and tarry aromas and flavours, smooth and mellow 5 years after initial offering on 2000 auction, yet still lively.

This wine should develop and improve for at least 8 years from vintage.

49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Pinotage, 14% Shiraz. A Cape blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage and Shiraz. The grapes were sourced from prime Helderberg (Stellenbosch) vineyards; fermented in open kuipe, punch downs (pigeage) for colour and tannin extraction; basket pressed; matured in French (77%) and American (23%) oak barrels (70% new) for 26 months. Tasting note: Deep, intense ruby colour. Rich raspberry & damson fruit aromas and flavours with hints of cedar & tobacco. A full-bodied wine with smooth, ripe tannins, lively acidity and a long finish. Recommended drinking - 2005 to 2010.

Grangehurst Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 1997

100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Helderberg, Firgrove and Stellenbosch Kloof vineyards. Fermented in open kuipe, basket-pressed and matured for 22 months in new 225 litre French oak barrels. 140 cases of this wine were sold at the CWG Auction 1999. Another 10 cases from Jeremy Walker's private collection are being offered in 2003 as part of the \Vinoteque Collection\. Medium-dark ruby-garnet colour. This wine has gained in complexity after 4 years of bottle maturation although the primary blackcurrants and violets aromas and flavours are still evident. The fruit, wood and tannin are well integrated - this wine is now ready for drinking, although it could probaby be kept for another 3 to 4 years.
